New Work- Everything is Perfect Now

“Everything is Perfect Now”

16″ x 20″ x 1″

Oils and Mixed Media on canvas

Gallery wrapped canvas, painted sides, no need for frame…comes ready to hang out of the box

This work is fun. I tried to think of what to say about it and honestly I felt good, I was happy and having fun and my personal life is pretty darn good right now….so there you have it. I am working on my abstracts a little more so that I can follow through with my agents suggestion that I work a little harder on this area of my work. I like abstract work, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t practice the style very often…and when I do them they sell right away. So, my agent suggested recently when I was bemoaning my lack of muse…to work without a real purpose, feel don’t think, let it come as it does and don’t over think it too much. So this is the third one in the new “abstract emotions” series. He was right of course, (tip of the hat to you Mike) it has helped the more serious work to come easier and it is also great for my brain pan.  It’s all good.

I hope this post finds all my friends and family and patrons good and well. Hope everyone is having a great summer time. :)

Love to all…raw & radiant,

Heather

Hello world, BAD! Kitty here, let’s talk, you got a minute?

Hello wide world, BAD! Kitty here and I have a few updates for you…and maybe more, we will see what comes.

The family of  Brown Truman’s have relocated to the quaint little town of Bay City, MI. We were in Lexington, KY for the last 6 years, and that experience changed the family in drastic ways. Before that we were in the Beaverton, OR. area for many years. So, you may be asking….why Bay City, MI.? (I like to think you all would ask that anyway, humor me here).

My new life partner is from this area and has family and friends here. It’s the cutest little town, on the water, ever.  She is an accomplished chef and an aspiring restaurateur. There is lots of opportunity here for business, and home ownership and quality schools for the boys. The kids and I went to Kentucky on the premise that we would be buying a home for our family. Well, that didn’t happen for us, the three of us anyway, the ex got his houses, right after he jettisoned his life and family. We were not to live there, it wasn’t our home, it was his. He got to go home. We are looking for ours.

Our family has lived a lot of places now. We have been in Florida, Mississippi, Oregon, Washington state, Kentucky and now Michigan. We are looking for our place, our home, our community and sanctuary. We like the water. This town is just about postcard cute. I like it here. I like the feeling of the neighborhoods, the people, the town is very pretty and quaint, it has a lot going on, and there are a lot of people here who know and love my partner. What’s not to like about all of that? Snow is the big issue at this point, will I survive this far North? We shall see, we shall see. LOL

With all the changes our family has gone through in the last year, we needed a “do-over”. You know when you were a kid and you were out playing (back in my day that’s what kids did, they went outside and played, mostly unsupervised too, Lord have mercy) anyway, you are playing outside and you swing at a ball or throw a stone for “your turn” and you missed. No big deal back then, you just yelled “do-over!” and you usually got another try at it. Well, in this life I have learned that sometimes a “do-over” is just the ticket. Sometimes places can become contaminated with memory and pain. For myself, I have not ever been able to comfortably handle that kind of emotional endurance race. I mean what can you do with a contamination experience? When beyond your controls life, reality, truths, people just change on you, and minutes later you sit amongst the ruins of what used to be your life 15 minutes before.. Ahhhh, life you sweet bitch….you never even have the tact to ask first. Not even a nod to make sure you are in the game, paying attention, ready to catch that missile that has been launched in your direction…not even noticing that the sun is in your eyes and you are blind…but I am learning to accept that life is like that. Change is the order of the day, and you have choices, oh yes indeed, lots of choices, but you can not avoid pain, or problems. There is no life without a problem to solve. I am learning to really adjust my mind to the situation at hand. I am on track again. I never needed my ex, the three of us were always together, strong and real. The three of us are the chain breakers. We will make the family we have always wanted no matter what. What we are doing now is good. What we are doing now, we do as a team for the best of all of us. We are all considered, we are all valued and we are all free to be and become who we really are. That’s a first for yours truly. I have never given myself permission to really live my life, without apology, true to me. I built a world around the tribe and when the tribe changed I found that I had lost my essential self. The core individual was weakened by years of neglect and oppression. Hey, I won’t lie to you, it’s been a rough year…but I feel bright and raw now. Everything is possible again. It’s a fresh start and I can make it into anything because it’s all possible again. I am no ones wife (obligation slave). I am a free individual choosing daily to be involved with my life and love and work. It’s all possible again and that’s a beauty-full thing.

I am beginning to paint again, it’s really different from everything I have ever done. I am hesitating in bringing it out only because it’s all so raw. You all know after all these years of writing, reading and art making together,  that I can not NOT share, it’s part of it all for me….so it’s coming, it’s coming. Stay tuned for that onslaught.

In the meantime, I have been selling a lot of the studio inventory at sale prices in our Ebay store. We have been doing very well with art and vintage goodies. If you are looking for something cool, we may have it in our store, so check it out, we try to add new and wonderful things every week. Here’s the link to the store: http://stores.ebay.com/badkittyartstudio

Right there at the end of living in Lexington, I was able to meet a bunch of terrific people who I now miss. So, a shout out goes to all my friends in Kentucky…I miss the Poker Parties and friendship, hope you are all well in your lives.

I look forward to meeting the new people in my world, it’s so nice to have a real life…and I want to send a final thanks out my ex for making it all possible, thanks for leaving man…you did us a real solid. :)

Have a great day everyone…living Raw and Radiant,

Heather

New Art- Positive Reduction

September 4, 2010 6 comments

‘Positive Reduction’

18″ x 24″ x 2″

oils on canvas

Will be available for purchase on my web site in the 2010 gallery.

Here is the quote that helped inspire the work:

The work was like peeling an onion. The outer skin came off with difficulty… but in no time you’d be down to its innards, tears streaming from your eyes as more and more beautiful reductions became possible.
-Edward Blishen

This abstract, mixed media oil painting took a year to complete. You’ll be saying…”no way BAD! Kitty, really?” (maybe not but I like to think about you all reading this and in my head you talk back, sometimes…no I’m not crazy, ok maybe a little bit) The simple answer is yes. I have painted this canvas 5 times. I hated each painting, and it would get thrown in the corner to wait until I had run out of supplies again. Well, I ran out of supplies. I picked up the cursed canvas and plopped it down on the easel. Then I stared reducing the very abstract color riot that was there. It started working! I felt something give inside my head and I finished this work over the last week. I had to wait for the paint to dry each time, because…like I said I’m outta supplies and therefore no drying alkids. OMG! I hate waiting for paint to dry, but nothing but oils give the depth of color and texture, IMHO, of course.

The picture of the wooden dressmakers dummy is one that I have had in my special pile for years, he had to become an enlightened fairy with dusty butterfly wings for this world. Dontcha’ think? Yeah, me too. Prepped and glued and textured him in there and bam! it feels good and done now. The background is a sunny orange/yellow, but very soft. I really liked how free this one made me feel…I think the whimsy may be returning on its own. Isn’t that nice?

Have a great day and thanks for being here.

New Art- The Goddess #2

‘The Goddess Series #2′

16″ x 20″

oils on flat canvas panel, will need mounting or framing for hanging

Available for sale on my web site in the 2010 gallery

Here is the quote that moved this work along:

“This, I submit, is the freedom of a real education, of learning how to be well-adjusted. You get to consciously decide what has meaning and what doesn’t. You get to decide what to worship.
Because here’s something else that’s weird but true: in the day-to day trenches of adult life, there is actually no such thing as atheism. There is no such thing as not worshipping. Everybody worships. The only choice we get is what to worship. And the compelling reason for maybe choosing some sort of god or spiritual-type thing to worship — be it JC or Allah, be it Yahweh or the Wiccan Mother Goddess, or the Four Noble Truths, or some inviolable set of ethical principles — is that pretty much anything else you worship will eat you alive. If you worship money and things, if they are where you tap real meaning in life, then you will never have enough, never feel you have enough. It’s the truth. Worship your body and beauty and sexual allure and you will always feel ugly. And when time and age start showing, you will die a million deaths before they finally grieve you. On one level, we all know this stuff already. It’s been codified as myths, proverbs, cliché.”

-David Foster Wallace

As I move through the work I find that I am rediscovering, in  way, my love for imaginative play. I can create anything I can think of. It’s like the very best kind of magic, really. If I want a world where people have the heads of animals and birds, I can make it happen It’s playful and introspective and addictive. As each of the Goddesses are born I feel a little more interested to see what happens next. Sometimes I feel like I am only a tool and the universe uses me as it sees fit, a little nudge here, and a little sufferng there. It keeps me moving right along, and these images keep making their way into my brain pan and I have no choice but to bring them to life. It’s all good, I’m having fun and enjoying the playfulness that my inner world affords me. I hope you enjoy it too.

Have a great day, and thanks so much for being here today.

Hello all! How was your Easter Weekend? Ours? Well, so nice that you asked…it was blissful. We don’t do Easter as a holiday ourselves, but we do enjoy the renewal of spring and the natural good energy that arises from the powerful day that many celebrate. I harnessed that good energy this weekend and worked in the garden and painted some small canvases for practice. These are those little canvases. They are side stapled but I did paint them black so they [staples] don’t show. I figure they will look just awesome in frames, which will be cheap and easy to find just about anywhere. They are fun and bright and full of good loving energy. Lexington is a very pretty place in the spring, but I have learned that because of all the sports and horses, it can feel a little like a big machine that fires up. The horse tracks open, the fancy cars and motorcycles start showing up, people are all exited about their sports teams and booze makers. It’s different from spring in the NW; different can be good, too.

So, I spent time playing and letting my feelings play in the color choices not the picture painting. It was freeing and I am enjoying going back to explore the world of abstracts. It’s  enlightening to let it all go and paint by intuition alone. I need this right now. I feel some of my works have become static. I don’t want to paint from examples, I want to create by imagination and intuition, I want to create the example itself. Abstract work is the way for me to get there. Expect a lot more of this work from me for a while, I am on and adventure of exploration, won’t you come along for the fun?

Have a great day, thanks for being here! Let me hear from you!

New Art- ACEO’s from BAD! Kitty Art

March 13, 2010 4 comments

My items on eBay

Tea Rose

Sunny ACEO

Bray On ACEO

Preen ACEO

These are all ACEO size (2.5″ x 3.5″) and are on 140# recycled watercolor paper

 From the top down:

1.Tea Rose – ACEO

2. Sunny – ACEO

3.  Bray On -ACEO

4. Preen – ACEO – Watercolors & ink

5. Do What? – ACEO

Hello everyone!  I’ve been busy, these are the best of my new fun armchair art form, the ACEO. I’ve wanted to challenge myself to the tiny format for some time and this last week I’ve been hard at it. These  are what I think are the best of my efforts. I’ve got another 5-6 of them and I’ll show them to you all a little later on in another post. Well…what do you think? I had a good time drawing them all and the challenge of developing a BAD! Kitty style in the form was fun for me. It made me stretch some muscles and stick to something long enough to see if I like it. I do, they are fun to work on from the comfort of my chair at night. They keep me from watching T.V. and I can still be with the family while I work. And it’s just fun to draw like that for a while, as I never practice my drawing skills often enough. All win-win, right?

So I think I’ll post these on the web site, and probably on eBay too. Just for shits and giggles, what the hell, right? They might even have a chance over at etsy…but we will have to see.

Well that’s all from me today, I’m going to be posting a eBay update on Monday, we are in week 9 of the project now. So, I’ll tallying up the numbers and letting you all know my progress. I’ll also be starting a new art auction on Monday too, so I’ll have the links up and all that good stuff for you all then. See ya in the funny pages….

Love to all,

Heather
